Heya internet, I'm in search of tags and accounts of people playing around with:

* older enterprise networking gear
* telephony gear and labs, particularly CO equipment

Seems like the kind of thing one should be able to find on Fedi :-)

@ety

The is the first tag I'd tune into, all sorts of people doing things with old gear that does double duty as space heaters in the winter.

I have seen old telco gear repurposed as part of amateur radio voice-over-IP trunks, I would think that a search for a tag specific to the hardware you are using or interested in would work.

@loriemerson any ideas? I'm not aware of any instance specifically devoted to either pursuit.

@w8emv @loriemerson right now I'm trying to get my thoughts together, but I want to try and lab up an as-feature-complete-as-reasonable CO-to-subscriber equipment and signal path.

Some of the equipment for this is in hand already, but there are some esoterics to T1 signaling that I don't fully understand, and I want to understand it better before I pick up the remaining pieces I need.

@ety @w8emv @loriemerson I didnt post much but started to build a "Home isp" of sorts using an old Ciscp, including DSL, but the DSLAMs I got had no firmware (one didnt and one bricked) so I shelved it for now.

@orion3311 @w8emv @loriemerson I don't know enough about the [residential] DSL side of the house, but I'd _really_ like to get a cable modem CMTS built-up at some point. Kinda adjacent?

It's amazing how well the value of even DOCSIS 1.0 gear holds its value.
