We flew this transmitter that has a GPS module and transmits at 144.39 MHz. It is also based on the .

We flew this last year on our high altitude balloon but forgot to replace the batteries, so it ran out of power early in the flight.

The GPS should work up to 100,000 ft. You can see the dipole antenna on the right side.

The APRS antenna is a 2m J-pole made out of twin lead.
