DIY antenna rotator is rotating! With antenna! To where, no idea.#hamradio #antenna #satellite #diy #project https://youtube.com/shorts/__49_SrrT38?si=R1LGJ_fsytx-UjNm
So far, the weak point of this project is 1. jumper wires to Arduino. Keep jumping out. Probably better to solder everything. and 2. 6mm hubs which connect the rotator box to the antenna, and which connect the box to the base. They do not have sufficient grip (even with set screw) to handle the weight of the antenna, and I've already had to re-attach the base one twice (too much weight and pulled the tiny screws from the wood). Will next attempt to mount the hubs to something metal instead.
@ai6yr amazing job done. Congratulations!
@ai6yr Between dupont jumpers and soldering there is a sweet spot -- wire wrapping. I wire wrap most of my projects.
Regarding the metal hubs, look at couplers for 3D printers. Easy to source and sturdy.
@vu2tum Oooh, good idea on wire wrapping. I know how to do that, although it's been decades since I did it last (undergrad project, lol). I even still have a wire wrapping tool around here somewhere. That would definitely work for the posts on these boards.
