Merry Christmas from the UK (where it is actually Christmas now)

I hope you all have a great day, however you spend it.

๐ŸŽ„ ๐ŸŽ… ๐ŸŽ„

So, here's the plan.

Packet radio using TNC-Pi, with dialup as backup / access for people who can't reach over rf (it's only a 10w radio)

Probably won't be a classic bbs, but possibly something you can telnet into and access mastodon.radio via command line, maybe some basic "email", possibly access specific sites over gopher?

It won't forward anything to the Internet, but I'm thinking it could proxy specific stuff.

Does anyone know KI5HBI?

They registered an account with mastodon.radio a while ago, but the email doesn't work, and I don't know how to contact them to get it fixed.

follow Friday (plus one)

@W9SMG
Nothing to do with the cute dog.

@kr4dio
We need more PCBs in our timelines.

Although, this is slightly pointless, I'd encourage everyone one mastodon.radio to follow everyone else on mastodon.radio!

Yay! Officially holiday time for me now.

Not sure how many of the multiple stalled projects will get any attention, but it would be nice to get one or two going again.

A #mastodon exclusive! You are invited to play on a *REAL* PDP-8/e running the TSS/8 monitor (TimeSharing System 8) pictured here. There is a user contributed tutorial here:

wiki.livingcomputers.org/doku.

To connect, ssh tss8@tty.livingcomputers.org

If you are unable to connect that means all 6 (yes, just 6) lines are in use. Remember, this is real hardware and there is NO EMULATION happening. It is the real deal! Enjoy!

Family member wants their own email domain.
Easy enough, but not sure they want imap.

is too expensive
is cheap, but not the best ux

Any other suggestions?

And this list of radio amateurs on mastodon, may be of interest: pad.dc7ia.eu/p/radio_amateurs_

And there are apps!

Because everyone needs a client that can display polls, right?

Oh ok.
Just me.

Hmm. I wonder if I can somehow make a kind of "modem" for my laptop using my android phone?

In that the laptop is using dialup and talking to the server, but it is making the phone call via my android phone.

Maybe like a sound card modem for packet radio, but dialing instead? Maybe I'd need to manually dial the number.

I have unlimited minutes so this might be a good way to test and use whatever I come up with!

(it's entirely possible this is a standard feature I don't know about!)

oops.

Just bid ยฃ1.99 for a 56k modem on eBay.

This can only result in an overly complex and expensive project involving a raspberry pi becoming a dialup server...

It probably wouldn't forward to the real internet, like this guide
dogemicrosystems.ca/wiki/Dial_

But it might offer something over telnet maybe?
(I'm working on a mastodon client for slow text only connections...)

Hi, I'm Eric.

I got my general class license about 5 years ago. I'm currently learning Morse Code with Long Island CW Club.

I'm a computer geek that got interested in radio for a retirement hobby.

Please welcome @kc9yjp !

I edit the @G5BK newsletter, which means I need to take submissions from members every month.

I have been doing this via email, which is fine.

But I wonder if there is a way to use as a dropbox for files, without everyone having to login or have an account...

@nextcloud i have looked, but did I miss something?

Finally made my first ham contact. VHF simplex , Mt. Diablo to Daly City in CA. Pretty excited to have done so after 48 hours of begging an empty repeater for a signal report.

Trunk!

Curated lists of people on the fediverse who you might want to follow, here is the ham radio list

communitywiki.org/trunk/grab/H

Maybe there is someone you don't know?
Maybe you'd like to join the list?

Maybe there is another list you will find interesting?
