There must be a better solution than this. Any ideas how I could fix the fan on the heat sink?

@DL6MHC Glue, weld or solder nuts between the fins and screw the fan in?

@DL6MHC First thing that comes to my mind is that the air blowed by the fan should carry the heat. The orientation of the fan should be such that the air blows in between the fins that are hot. I don't know how this particular fan can fit in that orientation. May be a smaller one can, fixed at the rear side blowing towards the front (shown in the picture).

@vu3rdd Good point! I have to be honest: I just bought a silent fan and cable-tied it to the sink, measured the temps before and after and was happy with the result ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
