I decided to learn how to fly the A320. Very much a case of the I Have No Idea What I’m Doing dog, but flying a jetliner. Took me an hour to start the thing up, 30 minutes to fly to Manchester, and then I missed the approach and had to land it by hand because I couldn’t make the autopilot try again.

@jon Did you try turning it off and on again? *ducks*

Incidentally, I went caving with someone who works at Airbus on a emulation platform for the avionics systems so you can run the aircraft on a laptop.

Apparently you can do full simulations with fluid dynamics and stuff to try out various scenarios with different subsystems. Plus, insert real pieces of hardware into your simulated aircraft and run tests against them.

@hugh @jon Can it now simulate what happens when one design department uses CATIA 4 and the other uses CATIA 5 or do they still prefer doing it empirically?
