I bought the PDF of the 2019 ARRL handbook.
Been on my list for a while now… what a treasure trove of information it is! And 745 MB zipped!
Dropped it into DEVONThink and now I can search it easily too.
@m0puh I was given a slightly outdated copy, it's a very useful reference. It would be cool if they could manage some kind of subscription model though as it would be hard to justify updating it every year at full price.
@M0TDN I wonder how much it changes year on year. Actually, there's so much content it would take multiple years to read it all!
@m0puh I would assume very little. Much of the content is relevant decades after it was first written, physics doesn't change!
@M0TDN true, but software, component availability and radios do! Still, considering the size of the thing and that fact that it mostly does appear to be about physics and electronics you are probably right.
@m0puh I think the new parts are going to be a small fraction of the overall volume. That's why I figure a subscription that delivers new updates rather than generate potentially a lot of new paper recycling would be a better way forward for it.
@M0TDN sounds like a good idea, but I wonder how you'd implement it. Keep the whole thing in a massive binder?
@m0puh not as crazy as it sounds!
@M0TDN Yeah, you're right, it could work. 1280 pages would need about 5 normal binders I think, so not ridiculous.
