I know DX Engineering is also in Ohio, but damn they ship fast!
(at least for things bought at Hamvention!)
I ordered some parts over the weekend at Hamvention on Saturday.
The four parts all arrived TODAY by 12 PM!
freaky fast!
@k8vsy Don't you love being pleasantly surprised like that? Most of the time, anyway. :)
@croyle yeah, it was a nice surprise!
now I'm scheduling an appointment for getting my car and radio wired together, at least power wise
@k8vsy Not doing it yourself? What's the fun new radio?
@croyle I'llnbe setting up the antenna, but as far as connecting to the fuse box, I'm leaving that to someone who knows that better, heh
and the new radio is the Icom 2730A, I wanted a basic 2m/70cm that will work better in my car than an HT, heh
@k8vsy Good plan.
I remember having to use an HT instead of a proper mobile in one car because BMW didn't approve of over 5W of RF inside the passenger area, lol. Definitely not as nice to use and I could have used the extra power too. :)
@croyle oh wow! yeah, that would suck, lol
and yeah, the 2730A does 50W on 2m, which is much better than my HT
@k8vsy That should be nice... Where is the radio going? I often tuck mine out of the way, so I end up needed an external speaker.
@croyle I'd like to mount it to the right side of the center divider between the driver and passenger seats, if there is room, otherwise, probably under the passenger seat. I'm going to wait to see what the shop says, and I'll have to measure some to make sure the cables are long enough
@croyle for the face/front of the radio, I'm going to mount that on the dashboard on the passenger, so it isn't too close to me while driving, heh (and my phone mount is probably in the way a little)
@k8vsy yes they do. Gigaparts is close to my qth. So I get the best of both.
@kn4ntu nice! hehe, that can be dangerous, lol
