Ben Brunzel<p>For my 50th unique Park activation on <a href="https://norden.social/tags/ParksOnTheAir" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ParksOnTheAir</span></a> I picked out a very special location. IE-0145 is located on the shore of Ireland next to the Hook lighthouse. The windy coast and the rough sea made this activation an extraordinary nature experience.</p><p>As EI/DL2XU I worked 16 stations across Europe as well as one park to park to New Jersey.</p><p>I used the <a href="https://norden.social/tags/QMX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>QMX</span></a> <a href="https://norden.social/tags/QRP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>QRP</span></a> transceiver with my linked dipole antenna. JeffG<p>I did more hf <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/hamradio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hamradio</span></a> in one day than I think I did in the last year, or two. Now I have to figure out how to log <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/pota" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pota</span></a> contacts.</p>
Søren Kjærsgaard<p>Occasionally it can be a good idea to add an in-line diode to protect a power supply used to charge a battery.</p><p>You want the resulting voltage drop as low as possible which calls for a high-power Schottky diode. The STM STPS5L60 is a 60V diode, rated at maximum 5A continuously. As I’ll be charging at maximum 3A, I decided to test the voltage drop and resulting case temperature at that load.</p><p>I measured a 0.38V drop, resulting in about 1.15W dissipated - not bad 😃</p><p>The outer case temperature rose to about 57C which is fully acceptable and way below the diodes limits. And it’s touchable as well, which is nice. </p><p>So, charging a LiFePO4 battery for my <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/hamradio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hamradio</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/SOTA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SOTA</span></a> and <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/POTA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>POTA</span></a> operations, I’ll set the supply to 15V, limit the current to 3A, and the battery’s built in BMS controller will handle the rest, easy! 👌🏼🙂</p><p>For the record, I always keep an eye on it when charging and I usually reduce the current by the end of the charge cycle ☝🏼</p><p><a href="https://techhub.social/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/electronicsengineering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electronicsengineering</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/hamr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hamr</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/testandmeasurement" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>testandmeasurement</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/rfengineer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rfengineer</span></a></p>

That came out of left field for me. Since most Region 2 <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/POTA" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>POTA</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/SOTA" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SOTA</span></a> etc. activators are from the US, that explains my observation Re North America. KFO̸UNK<p>I always forget about RBN. I tried to activate a couple days ago and 40m was really bad, while 20m was .. existing. It's really nice seeing later that I was really getting out with CW on a QRP radio and 40m EFHW, even though I only got 8 contacts before being run off by mosquitos!</p><p>I'm really excited to see what I can do on a good day, and I'm itching to try the ZM-2 I picked up. I really don't like being stuck on 1 or 2 bands! 😅 </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/hamradio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hamradio</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/pota" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pota</span></a></p>
Michael VE3WMB<p>Today is the last full day of our trip to VE9 so I decided that I would try to finish off with a POTA &quot;twofer&quot;, in spite of the poor band conditions. I activated CA-5239 and CA-6435 an historic Courthouse and Gaol (jail) that are located on the same grounds in Saint Andrews, NB. In spite of an early start I only worked 6 CW stations, but managed to save the day with an additional 11 FT8 contacts. It was an absolutely gorgeous morning to be out playing radio. <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/pota" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>pota</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/qrp" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>qrp</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/ft8" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ft8</span></a> de VA2NB/VE9</p>

KFO̸UNK<p>I tried to activate US-2482 again close to home. I did it QRP for the first time in a while. It was nice running such a minimal kit. I got everything but the throw line in the hard case that only exactly fits my G90. I packed the G106, usb power bank, 40m EFHW, and paddles.</p><p>40m was pretty rough so I switched to 20m even though that antenna gets a fairly high SWR. I was getting contacts but the bugs were really bad.
