W6KME

Two SOTA peaks in one day, with about 25 miles of sublime dirt roads on a beautiful day...does it get any better? Okay, the bands were abysmal. Don't care.

@W6KME Hopefully we catch a break with band conditions for Field Day.

@N0LSD Oh man, you have no idea how much sleep it has cost me worrying about it. I'm Field Day coordinator for a club that expects to have 22 stations this year; 6 months of prep work. 😮

@W6KME I am on the exact opposite end of the spectrum, so I feel ya! Single op, QRP battery supported with limited solar as a re-charge capacity, typically do digital data modes (non-JT modes for EmComm exercises) from a tent a couple miles into the woods. I only do vehicle-supported for WFD if temps are a limiting factor. So propagation plays a major factor. I usu. do a POTA activation as a function of these things - more to validate band/mode/freq choices than anything. Plus...

@W6KME (2/n) ...Plus - I've been out on POTA activations throughout the spring, and it's wet and buggy up here in the Eastern Great Lakes. Ticks and mosquitos are already a factor in Apr and May, for instance - unusual in these parts, and it's not been particularly warm - just hitting consistent 70s in the last couple weeks; so, cold and damp all spring. I just hope folks play it smart with site choices. Bands will do what they do, but folks shld be mindful of such things.(Fin)
