Pinned toot

My favorite quote from Harry Potter (books) was when they reveal Severus still loves Lilly after all these years. Some back story, when a wizard falls in love his patronus changes to match that of the person they love. Lilly's patronus was a silver doe.

"So the boy… the boy must die?" asked Snape quite calmly.

"And Voldemort himself must do it, Severus. That is essential."

Another long silence. Then Snape said, "I thought… all these years… that we were protecting him for her. For Lily."

"We have protected him because it has been essential to teach him, to raise him, to let him try his strength," said Dumbledore, his eyes still tight shut. "Meanwhile, the connection between them grows ever stronger, a parasitic growth: Sometimes I have thought he suspects it himself. If I know him, he will have arranged matters so that when he sets out to meet his death, it will truly mean the end of Voldemort."

Dumbledore opened his eyes. Snape looked horrified.

"You have kept him alive so that he can die at the right moment?... You have used me… I have spied for you and lied for you, put myself in mortal danger for you. Everything was supposed to keep Lily Potter's son safe. Now you tell me you have been raising him like a pig for slaughter…"

"But this is touching, Severus," said Dumbledore seriously. "Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?"

"For him?" shouted Snape. "Expecto Patronum!"

From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe: She landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office, and soared out of the window. Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears.

"After all this time?"

"Always," said Snape.

Morning mastodon. Been up for about 1.5 hours listening to a T-Mobile business call, reading, and eating some breakfast

My room is cold AF due to the fact that it is in the basement. Glad I have blankets!

Just read a great book called Zone War from smashwords. Rampant killer drones, battling AIs and guns, lots of guns

Just another day on this little blue marble we call home. Maybe one day it will be just another Sol on the little red marble we will call home

Good morning all. I am having the strangest problem. My Id will not transmit on 1 talkgroup on the Brandmeister network. Every other TG works just fine. Using a different ID also works fine. I am baffled. I just reached out to support this morning. Let's see how long it takes to get a response.

Hello everyone! Ok, another thread on my experience with tech. This one is about reducing my reliance on Google. Which is proving to be next to impossible, but I'm trying :/

Disclaimer: this is restricted to Google Search. Not other service offered by the G company.

Experts in my line of work have always recommend me to stop using Google services, as we all know, it is a data privacy nightmare. I've been complacent about it, specially to due to the drastic change in habit.

If I posted text posts about anything I cared about on facebook the algorithm would not show it to almost anyone thats even following me. It would literally just drop off the radar and be forgotten. I post a random thought here and people from around the world actually have a chance to respond. That is powerful. That cant be underplayed. The fact that we dont have to worry whether our messages have financial viability makes our ideas stronger. Our voices ring.

Hi! I'm Pranjali.

I'm 24 and still trying to figure out this adulting business. From Mumbai, India and a little late to the party. I find social media stressful, so I don't do Twitter (et al). That said, this seems like a less noisy, more inclusive community, and I do love me some healthy public discourse. Trying to find meaning in the crazy. I'm here to listen, lurk, and occasionally spam you with pictures of my 🐾 babies.

Tell me about a time you flirted with someone or was flirted with in a super cringey way.

(Boost this i wanna see a bunch of stories)

How many worker/sidekiq threads do you find is good for a smallish instance? Say 500 ppl?

I got rid of the persistent notification about my being connected. Having an empty notification shade is wonderful. My phone is configured so as to not have internet access unless the VPN is connected. Thank the ProtonVPN team for me. @protonmail

It’s like Frank Zappa said...

“If you want to get laid, go to college. If you want an education, go to the library.”

I get why you get such respect from people with credentials if you say you’re self taught.

You know what is annoying? does not take connections from vpns. Therefore I can't use it

So, the @mastodonusercount bot says there are between 15000 and 20000 toots per hour. That is 4.16 to 5.15 TPS (Toots Per Second). .

Government rant

Again! I have no idea who it was, but thank you for using my link! You guys are great!
