Oh right I'm going to Romania today, I forgor
I'm usually very excited about traveling, except this time I'm going there for exams, as this semester I was doing an Erasmus+ mobility, but with all online classes, so I attended remotely from France
Unfortunately, I booked an apartment on Airbnb with my parents from a new account that just posted 3 offers, and then asked us for a deposit on PayPal... Obviously that was a fake and they canceled when we refused (and got banned), but...
... that meant we had to look for another accomodation yesterday, at day minus 1 from actually going there.
Had to book an hotel for tonight, then found another nice apartment starting on Monday (on Booking as Airbnb refused to let us book anything for some reason, I guess you're not supposed to book stuff at D-1/D-2 there
Bottom line is, please check the profile of the host and reviews before you book something on Airbnb. Also avoid booking only 2 weeks in advance
(I would have booked sooner, but I didn't have all the exam dates before then so I could book neither the flights nor the accomodation)
Anyway, it will be refreshing to travel again, and I'll operate as YO/F4JBS with my D878UV
Currently at the Marseille airport, I cleared security, that went smoother than I though it would
The airport was a bit crowded when I arrived but it got better
(oh no, forgot the description! above is a photo of the airport lines before luggage drop and security, and there's a few people)
So I arrived yesterday, the hotel was very nice so it reassured me a bit.
I was able to order (junk) food, and I tried calling on a repeater (YO3KXL) linked to RoLink, as YO/F4JBS in English and French, and someone answered in Romanian which was surprising since it was past midnight local time
Any advice for calling on repeaters in countries where you do not speak the language?
Also, I used both "stroke"/"barre de fraction" and "slash" to describe the / separator, should I stick to one?
Just arrived at the apartment I will stay at for the rest of my stay in Bucharest. It's surprisingly nice and has all the amenities I could ask for, including a supermarket right in front of it.
Unfortunately, it's about ~40 minutes from the university but it's still a bargain.
I think I'll get the radio and call on the repeater and local frequencies, see if someone answers
(no pictures for now since it's a private owner, although it's publicly listed, @M0YNG what do you think?)
I have completed my last exam, and I leave tomorrow.
I did a few QSOs on DMR with French people, unfortunately I wasn't able to make any local QSO for now. Gonna keep trying
Good morning!
I woke up a bit early (6:20 EET) for my flight (11:10 EET) since pretty much everything's already ready but oh well.
ADS-B, aviation and other enthusiasts, if you want to follow my flight: 11:10 EET OTP → MRS 13:00 CET, flight number FR3642. According to Flightradar, the aircraft callsign is 9H-VUS.
Unfortunately, still no local QSO.
