good BBC article about the direct actions that got disabled people legal protection against discrimination in the late 1990s: bbc.co.uk/news/extra/8rvpt6bcl

Currently reading Radio Girl. The Story of Violet McKenzie the first woman to qualify as an electrical engineer in Australia and the person who set up morse code training in Aus in 1930s foreseeing that the skill would be useful to the armed forces.

I just had a quick qso with Feroe Islands on 17m, using my 20m dipole and my manual tuner. I got a nice 559 report using only 10 watts, so it seems to be working somehow. SWR at the tuner reads 1.2. How would you estimate the radiation efficiency of such a setup ? Modelling in NEC ?

I can't help but think of this quote every time Dems talk about "unity" and "reaching across the aisle":

"We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist." -- James Baldwin

Think someone is using the default APRS location on their new radio!

Mastodon does not store passwords in plain text. This is trivial to confirm as Mastodon is an open-source project. We use the bcrypt algorithm for one-way hashing of passwords. I can't believe someone is spreading misinformation about something so trivial to debunk.

Did you know about Proppy ? : soundbytes.asia/proppy/
It is a nice online prediction suite. I find it a great alternative to voacap

Hello lazyweb!

I have an smart TV (I know I know) that runs android.
It's a Sony.

How do I find the TV signal strength?
Not WiFi! Actually broadcast TV signal.

I know about the Sony guide that says to use the "remote commander" but my TV doesn't have that.

I'm trying to aim the aerial for best signal, and knowing the rough direction isn't good enough sadly.

The shack, a shelf in my daughter's room in fact.

COVID-19

Well that's the third alert I've had from the NHS app, none required action...

"Black people in England and Wales are nine times more likely to be stopped and searched by police than white people, new official figures show.

The figures for 2019-20 come after protests and allegations of racial profiling by police, with claims that trust and confidence in police are under serious strain."

Anyone here building RadioBerry? github.com/pa3gsb/Radioberry-2

I have the PCB and the parts, so hoping to start the build soon..

Summits on the Air in W6 land. This was my first time actually using this antenna, and it worked well. QRP, 5W output on 20M, and 40M. Handheld radio for packet data. #hamradio #amateurradio

Food, chickens

A thought occurs...

How many individual chickens are killed per KFC meal?

E.g. The Boneless Banquet Box Meal
"three 100% chicken breast Mini Fillets, plus Popcorn Chicken"

Happy "logging is easier now" day πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ people!

(we're supposed to log in gmt all year, and now the clocks match!)

You don't HAVE to use YouTube...

Many who post there also post on Nebula which is owned by the creators themselves, has no adverts, etc.

It's not even that expensive!

$15 gets you a year subscription to Nebula and Curiosity Stream (proper professional documentaries)

I finally managed to run coax into my house last night. Talked on a local repeater and they said I sounded good.

Instead of drilling a hole into the wall I just used some really thin (2.7mm) coax and a SO239 to SMA adapter and ran that through the window.

I still need to ground the antenna, so it stays disconnected most of the time. I'll be fixing that very soon.
