Need some advices !

I am offered to get, for not too much money, a package with
-1 x FT-290R II
- 1 x FT-290R
- 2 x FT-790R
These are 2m and 70cm all modes transceivers but only with 2.5w. (possibility to get an output amplifier)

Are they still useful ? Or completely out of date ?

Self hosting email in 2020.

Good idea?
Bad idea?

What problems might I have?
What is easier than it used to be?

Suggestions for server and client software?

Anyone tried ne?

I'm looking for something in the "easy for a person not used to computers" and also "wants to focus on writing" but not a typewriter space.

Plus I have a spare netbook with little power so non-GUI would be ideal for responsiveness

Yesterday, we try to make QSO with @F4INS in HF. Although we both listen far stations (over 500 km) we could not hear each other neither in digimode nor in CW, on 20m or 40m.

Only a test with 100w on 40m in JS8 reached a -18db reception 😕

Too far for 2m and too close for 20m/40m, what is the best way to contact a station which is at about 300km with some mountains in the middle ?

Good morning! I'm a radio operator, programmer and general tinkerer. My interests lie in digital wireless communications and in general local radio work. I'm not much on HF but hope to be sometime. Located in CM87ut.

Just cleaned my laptop screen properly for the first time in ages.

I should do this more often!

Hello ! I am very pleased to join . I am a new ham since march 2020, but a long time radio enthusiast and listener. I am mainly motivated by learning new things. I like building and am trying to understand the underlying . I love long QSOs with people from other cultures. I am also a long time user. Other than that, I am a painter, as @patricepoly .
I hope to talk to you on air soon !

Today I finally had my first succeful satellite QSO! The other operator was maritime mobile, the satellite was SO-50. I nearly messed up when I lost the satellite during the QSO while manually holding the arrow antenna. Is there a good solution for mounting the arrow II antenna on a tripod?
