🇬🇧 I'm still searching for radio amateurs on mastodon, by the way.

Please retoot!

Damn, I bought two Pi 3s only last week!

oh well, they are plenty powerful enough for this usecase ...

Just had an awesome QSO with G4VRX on 2m FM.
I was driving around 50 miles, and he kept the beam on me the whole time with S9+ signals almost the whole time.

Makes me wonder if I should get a beam ...

Thanks Graham!

@rev_mook @sp6mr

I think I'm making some progress, I've heard my own packet being repeated back at me...

But I don't have any evidence that it has made it to an i-gate.

For example, axlisten shows:

1: fm M0YNG to SP6MR via WIDE1-1 WIDE2-2 ctl UI^ pid=F0(Text) len 17 12:57:45
Hello Testing! 73
1: fm M0YNG to SP6MR via G4GVZ* WIDE2-2 ctl UI^ pid=F0(Text) len 17 12:57:49
Hello Testing! 73

Semi permanent maybe install of the packet radio.

Has a ups of sorts too, there is a float charger connected to a SLAB which is powering radio, pi, and printer.

APRS still running on receive... Now to try and get it to send too.

From the command line obviously.

Thank you @M0YNG.

Hello everyone - I am Ramakrishnan. My callsign is VU3RDD and I live in Bangalore, India. I am interested in homebrew electronics and I mostly operate HF/CW at the moment. I have inverted V antenna for 40 and 20m bands.

I do computer programming for a living and work on low level software, cryptography and network protocols..

I have another account but i thought of separating the radio/electronics toots into a separate account.

GB100GCHQ special event station is on the air!

Currently being spotted on 14.215 voice

I think... With a large dollop of luck... It works?

TNC-Pi now using i2c, listening for packets. Packets are logged to a file. Inotify watches for changes to that file, when then occur tail grabs the last two lines and sends them to print via serial.

Ok, let's ask the hive mind.

I have a thermal printer connected to my Raspberry Pi, I can send it data and it will print it via `lp`, e.g. I can do `cat test.txt | lp` and it will spit stuff out.

What I want to do is get it to print the result of a long running command, as it happens.
In this case, it's aprs packets, but I guess anything that streams data.

The above command doesn't seem to sent any data to the printer, at least not until it stops, and then it still doesn't do anything.

Hello, my name is Michał and I'm a HAM from Poland. Quite a fresh operator - I've got my licence for a year and a half - interested in APRS and digital modes, but recently trying to go on HF bands. I also like riding a bike wherever possible. Thanks!

Everyone, please welcome @sp6mr and @faveing!

ha! It worked! just using axlisten on 144.800 and bursts of noise turn into this on the command line.

Looking at the Irish license conditions, they have a much stricter requirement for logging than the UK (which is basically "if you want to")

Wondering how this compares to other countries?

This is interesting, I'll have to listen out for it!

"Why is Project HAARP so controversial?"
